why I choose to learn Japanese

I was planning to learn Japanese long time ago but always being lazy... And this summer my best friend told me that she got an offer from Waseda University in Tokyo and decided to do her master degree there, I was happy for her because I know how much she prepared for it and at the same time, I criticize myself for not paying any effort in language study. For a really long time, I had no passion about anything, and one of the reasons might be that I was not fully interested in the main jobs that I was doing. As a senior now I am still confused about heading to the industry or continuing study after graduation. However, instead of struggling without any clue I would like to try new things that I like such as jazz dance and Japanese etc. and maybe I could figure out what I should do next ....lol

  1. Hello ビビアンさん, I think that learning Japanese would be a good (and challenging) entry point towards picking up something new. For us Chinese speakers, Japanese would seem familiar but in fact is very different. So I think you'd find excitements learning it! Since you are よねんせい, you can still enjoy yourself while being on the look out for the possibilities in life. I know that it can seem stressful and overwhelming, but in the end you'll be fine :)

    1. Yes, although some kanji are similar to the ones in Chinese the sound of them are totally different. Thank you for cheering me up, and good luck with your 1st year Japanese!

  2. こんばんは ビビアンさん!
I really love reading your post! I'm also a senior right now, and I'm facing the same situation as you do, uncertain about future, heavy workload and pressure of job searching. I also found learning Japanese is an useful way to escape a little while. I believe that you can find a good way dealing with the situation you are facing right now! And good luck with your graduation next year!!

  3. I can really relate to the first sentence of this post, haha.

Congratulations to your friend! Waseda is an amazing school that I can only dream of getting in to. Maybe after this semester, you will be able to visit your friend at Waseda and navigate Tokyo on your own!

Even though I'm not there yet, I know that being a senior is really tough. I hope that exploring new things inspires/helps you to decide what to do in the future.
